Initials, dates and engravings can make existing jewellery more personal. Made by You begins earlier.
Before the form, metal or arrangement is decided, we talk about the person receiving the jewellery. The details you remember, what they wear, the way they live and what you would like the piece to say all become part of the design.
You then take part in selected stages of making it. The finished piece carries more than a personalised detail. It carries the time, thought and care you placed into it.
Who are you making it for?
Begin with the person, not the product.
What detail always makes you think of them? What do they wear every day? What should the jewellery quietly say when they learn how it was made?
You do not need sketches or jewellery terminology. A photograph, a handwritten note, a memory or a few honest words may be a more useful place to begin.

Helen Bromfield brings jewellery design and specialist pearl and bead stringing. She considers proportion, materials, movement and the small details that make jewellery feel right for the person wearing it.
David Kaye brings repair and diamond expertise, supported by his membership of the London Diamond Bourse. He considers the technical requirements and explains practical decisions in clear language.
Made by You brings those areas of experience around one piece and keeps you close to the people guiding it.
The personal part is not only what the jewellery says. It is the care you placed into making it.

What is the Made by You jewellery experience?
Made by You is a private, guided jewellery making experience and bespoke commission at HD Studio London in Hatton Garden. You help shape the story, design decisions and suitable parts of the making while Helen and David remain responsible for specialist work and the finished quality.
Do I need jewellery making experience?
No. The experience is planned for someone without previous jewellery making skills. Helen or David will explain each suitable stage and guide you at a comfortable pace.
Will I make the entire piece myself?
You take part in selected stages that suit the design and can be carried out safely. Helen and David retain responsibility for specialist tools, high heat, stone setting, structural integrity, professional finishing and quality checks.
What type of jewellery can I make?
The initial Made by You range considers rings, pendants or charms, and pearl or bead pieces. Each idea is reviewed before it is accepted because the possible stages depend on the design, materials and intended wearer.
Can I use an existing diamond, gemstone, pearls or jewellery?
Existing stones, pearls, beads or jewellery can be considered once their condition, dimensions and suitability for the proposed design have been assessed. Helen or David will explain what appears practical before the design is agreed.
How much does the Made by You experience cost?
Cost depends on the design, metal, gemstones, specialist work and the nature of your participation. A quotation is provided after the design consultation and before you decide to proceed.
How long does the process take?
Timing varies with the design, sourcing, making and any hallmarking or specialist finishing required. An expected schedule is confirmed before the project is approved.
Will I take the finished jewellery home on the same day?
Not always. Some pieces require specialist work, finishing, setting or hallmarking after your making session. Helen or David will explain the completion and collection arrangements before work begins.
Can the jewellery remain a surprise?
Yes. Tell us that the piece is a surprise when you enquire. We can discuss discreet communication, sizing considerations and what information may be needed without involving the person receiving it.

The consultation and making experience take place at HD Studio London, Unit 3.4, 3rd Floor, Treasure House, 19 to 21 Hatton Garden, London EC1N 8BA. Visits are arranged personally with Helen or David.
